An important security lesson

We’re always warning our customers to be vigilant when using their caravan or motorhome, as it’s surprising how easily you can become a victim of theft. Sadly, an elderly couple found this out to their cost recently when their motorhome was stolen from a car wash.

According to the Caravan Times website, Joseph and Pauline Maleney were using a car wash in Morley, West Yorkshire, on their way to Blackpool for a short break when a man climbed into their Peugeot Boxer Executive motorhome and drove off with it.

At the time, the couple had left their leisure vehicle unattended whilst using a nearby shop and assumed that a member of staff was moving it to a different location when they saw it move, only to watch their beloved motorhome drive off into the distance. The thief is yet to be caught.

Unfortunately theft is one of the risks that caravan and motorhome owners need to be aware of – keep your vehicle locked at all times when unattended and be aware of where your keys are. Even though stealing the caravan or motorhome itself is relatively unusual, opportunist thieves could still take advantage of an unlocked leisure vehicle to steal valuable items stored inside.

Coast’s touring caravan insurance, static caravan insurance and motorhome insurance policies will protect you against theft as standard. For a no obligation quotation call Freephone 0800 614 849 or buy caravan insurance online.
