Be safe- Install a fire alarm in your Caravan, park home and motorhome
Fitting your caravan, park home or motorhome with a fire alarm is just as important as having one in your home. This is because they are often made of lightweight and highly combustible fittings, therefore a fire can take off frighteningly fast and you may have just seconds to evacuate.
Other things to consider when thinking of fire safety and your caravan, park home or motorhome are the fire drill arrangements on the site, make sure you know where the fire safety zones are and who to alert in the event of a fire.
You should also be extra vigilant of potential hazards, for example, don’t leave pans unattended when cooking, keep matches out of reach of children, set BBQ’S at an appropriate distance, ensure that they are fully extinguished and if you smoke use suitable metal ashtrays.
Furthermore you should check all gas fittings, use arrester valves on gas bottles and make sure your home is adequately ventilated. It is also a good idea to get a registered Corgi gas fitter to fit and regularly service any gas appliances.
In addition, a carbon monoxide detector is an essential. Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas that is toxic to humans and animals. It is a highly poisonous substance produced by the incomplete burning of gas and Liquid Petroleum Gas. This happens when a gas appliance has been incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained. Carbon monoxide can be fatal and even low levels of the gas can cause serious harm to health when breathed in over a long period of time.
