Campervan campaign receives government backing
A campaign by UK manufacturer Salop Vans to increase safety regulations surrounding campervan conversions has gained government support after being backed by transport minister Stephen Hammond.
Salop is appealing for new measures to be introduced regarding campervan conversion safety testing, including issuing certificates to signal that seat belts seat and beds have been properly installed.
Mr Hammond has agreed to host a meeting between UK campervan converters in May, which will discuss a voluntary code of conduct taking these safety concerns into consideration.
It will also look at closing the legal loophole which allows certain types of motorhome and campervan conversions to be registered with the DVLA and sold without sufficient safety testing, placing owners in danger.
Coast offers campervan conversion insurance subject to an engineer’s report. For more information call Freephone 0800 614 849.
