Coast’s top ten caravan preparation tips
– Send your caravan for a professional service to make sure it’s mechanically sound. Although it’s not the law, we recommend you have it serviced annually to reduce repair bills and give you added peace of mind.
– If you decide not to service your caravan, it’s important at the very least to inspect your widow seals in case of leaks, as well as ensuring your tyres are in good condition with a minimum 1.6mm tread depth.
– Make sure you’re powered up for your first trip away by checking your leisure battery and installing the gas bottle back into your caravan if you removed it during the winter. Don’t forget to test your heater, cooker and fridge using both energy sources.
– Give your leisure home some TLC by cleaning out its pipes and wastemaster with sterilising fluid.
– Create a homely environment with a thorough interior clean and polish, including washing curtains or blinds.
– Don’t forget the outside: a good wash and polish will make sure you have the best looking caravan or motorhome on the road, as well as helping to protect it against the elements.
– Before you set off on your first trip of the year, double check your wheel nuts and tyre pressures.
– If you’re a touring caravan owner, it’s important to ensure your towbar is clean and in good condition. Test your electrical connections as well.
– Make sure you are as prepared as your caravan or motorhome. Charge up your sat nav and keep hold of maps and details of caravan sites in the area you’re planning to visit; it’s no use having a sparkling caravan if you get lost on the journey!
– Last but by no means least, check your caravan insurance is up to date. Nobody likes to think about worst case scenarios, but possessing dedicated touring caravan, campervan or motorhome insurance means you’re covered in the event of an accident or damage to your leisure vehicle.
Whether you’re taking out insurance for the first time or renewing an existing policy, Coast offers competitive touring caravan insurance, motorhome insurance and campervan insurance.
