Elddis continues with motorhome safety project
Road safety is an incredibly important issue to Coast, which is why we’re pleased to see Elddis renewing its ‘Belts=Berths’ passenger safety campaign.
The motorhome and touring caravan manufacturer launched a scheme a year ago to ensure that each of their vehicles’ designated sleeping berths is provided with a seat belt.
After successfully committing to the project for 12 months, Elddis has renewed its commitment to ‘Belts=Berths’ and continues to test its belts to rigorous European Safety regulations.
“It is wholly inappropriate for a responsible motorhome converter to develop and offer for sale, for example, a four berth motorhome which has only two seat belts,” commented Elddis’ Director Rob Quine.
Going on to talk about crash testing, Quine said: “The test is a simulated crash test where the force applied to the seat belt and frame is calculated taking into account the deceleration which occurs in a 70mph crash, the weight of two adults sitting in the seats, and the weight of the frame itself.
“The frame is fitted onto a test rig which is constructed around the motorhome’s chassis and the seat frame…The loads applied can be as high as 4500kgs (4.5 tonne) and these are applied to simulate the rapid loads applied in a crash situation.”
Whether you own an Elddis motorhome or a campervan produced by another leading manufacturer, Coast can offer you a competitive quotation on your motorhome insurance. For more information contact our UK based sales team on Freephone 0800 614 849.
