Local caravan crime on the decline
A local police force in Weardale,
, is celebrating a huge reduction in crime rates at its leisure sites following a new ‘Caravan Watch’ initiative.
The scheme was introduced during the winter months after several incidents of damage and anti-social behaviour affected caravan parks in the area while they were relatively uninhabited by holidaymakers.
Police spoke to site owners and together they drew up a long term crime strategy, which included highlighting security improvements, improving operator/caravan owner relationships and sharing evidence of criminal behaviour between parks in order to help stamp it out.
“The scheme has already proved its worth and is having a positive impact on tourism and the local community,” PCSE Tracy Bilton told Caravan Times.
Caravan Watch participants have been issued with UV pens to mark their property and signs have been put up at parks to show they’re involved in the scheme. The police are also in the process of installing door and window alarms to those caravan owners that do not currently have these security measures.
Even with watertight security measures in place, there’s a certain peace of mind you gain from knowing that your caravan and its contents will be taken care of if the worst does happen.
