Motorhomes to the rescue!

It’s not just the UK that loves outdoor living – motorhomes could provide much-needed accommodation for tourists travelling to the other side of the world next year!

More than 150,000 sports fans are expected to land in Christchurch, New Zealand, in February 2015 when the city hosts the Cricket World Cup.

This event coincides with the busiest tourist month of the year, and a lack of permanent accommodation due to the earthquake that the city suffered in 2011 means that hotels and bed and breakfasts could be overwhelmed by the sudden influx of cricket fanatics.

The government is planning to avert this accommodation crisis by bringing in a batch of motorhomes for tourists to stay in – a solution that was considered when the country hosted the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Motorhoming is already a popular attraction in New Zealand, so there will be no shortage of leisure vehicles available for hire. Further developments in the scheme will be announced as the year progresses.
