Olympic legacy to increase caravan holidays

Although it’s been a couple of months since London 2012 came to an end, Olympic fever is still strong throughout the UK – and it could have a positive impact on the caravan and holiday park industry next season.

Many holiday lodge and caravan park owners have seen a surge in bookings from families wanting to embrace active breaks on home soil rather than an expensive foreign holiday in 2013.

After the success of Team GB’s cyclists many couples and families are choosing to explore the countryside on two wheels, especially as new cycle routes – such as Wiggins Way at Plassey Leisure Park in Wales – are opening all the time.

A survey of 50 Best of British leisure parks confirmed that operators across Britain are expecting both an increase in bookings next summer and a rise in demand by holidaymakers for sporting activities. As a result, many are planning to introduce a programme of events including archery, swimming, rowing, sailing and horse riding.

“Our findings suggest that this year will have changed completely the dynamics of the traditional British holiday,” commented Best of British chairman Claire Jeavons.
