Pilot scheme launched to stop caravan burglaries

A new pilot scheme is being launched in Kinmel Bay and Towyn Caravan Park, North Wales, to deter burglars.

Police have recently visited the area to encourage caravan owners to mark valuable belongings and set up warning signs so potential thieves will be made aware that the property has been marked.

The Daily Post reported that PCSO Craig Berry said “The idea behind the event is to etch a code on the property. Small stickers will be placed on the property and an A4 poster will be displayed in the windows, stating that the property has been marked.”

The scheme is being launched after a large number of televisions were stolen before the start of the season. Second hand shops are also being warned of the scheme and anyone found in possession of a marked TV could be prosecuted for handling stolen goods.
