Top tips to be safe when out and about in the snow

Wrap up warm- wearing numerous layers of thin clothing can be more effective at keeping you warm than a single thick layer. Under socks and thermals are great as an under layer to your clothes to help keep you that extra bit warmer.

Stay as dry as possible- avoid wearing clothing such as cotton socks and jeans as they tend to absorb water faster as wells as taking longer to dry.

Be sure to wear bright colours or invest in a reflective visibility jacket in order to be more visible in bad weather conditions.

Be careful when walking on icy surfaces, wearing snow boots or shoes with extra grip can be useful to try and prevent you from slipping and hurting yourself.

Keep the following emergency kit in your car over the winter period…

  • Snow shovel
  • Jump leads
  • Ice scraper
  • Spare warm clothes
  • Torch
  • Cat litter, grit or sand
  • Food and water
  • First aid kit
  • Mobile phone
  • Sturdy boots
