What’s in a name?!

When it comes to buying a house, we all know that the key to a successful investment is location, location, location. But were you aware that it’s not just the postcode you choose that can affect the price of a property?

New research by a property website has revealed that your home could be worth £84,000 less than a house with a similar footprint and amenities in a neighbouring area… if it’s on a road with a rude or double entendre name!

According to the poll, 6 out of 10 potential buyers would be put off by an embarrassing street name, even if the properties situated on it were ideal for their needs.

“While living in a street with a funny or rude name might be a fun conversation starter or source of dinner party banter, it might not be so good when it comes to selling your house,” said Scott Green, CEO of NeedaProperty.com, which carried out the survey. “However, with an embarrassing street name causing such a big difference in a property’s value, it seems there are bargains to be had for those who don’t mind a bit of innuendo.”

Wherever your house is located, it’s important to make sure your investment is covered with a comprehensive home insurance policy. To speak to Coast about insuring your home and its contents call Freephone 0800 0234 843 or request an online home insurance quotation.
