Cornwall MP backs better rights for park home owners

Newquay and St Austell MP Stephen Gilbert has applauded the UK government for addressing the rights of park home owners.
Gilbert is a member of an official committee in consultation with park home residents and site owners, covering topics such as the sale of park homes, their maintenance and the behaviour of site operators. A report will be compiled by the committee and presented to the government this summer.

“While many site owners are decent and honest people, there have been far too many reported cases of intimidation, harassment and bullying from site owners in order to force the residents out of the parks and collect excessive charges for pitch fees, utilities and maintenance,” Gilbert told the BBC. “These practices must come to an end and I am pleased to see that the government is giving the issue the attention it deserves through this consultation.”

Gilbert’s constituency is popular with park home residents as around 1,800 sites are located within the area. The organisation representing park homes, the British Holiday and Home Parks Association, has already backed plans to give residents greater levels of protection.
