Royal support for Olympic caravan park

The Queen has given permission for a temporary campsite to be set up in the grounds of Windsor Great Park during this summer’s Olympic games.

Her Majesty has offered space for around 300 caravan and camping pitches at the royal site throughout the event, which will welcome around 1,000 Olympic ticket purchasers during the two week period.

The temporary campsite will offer catering facilities, selling food produced by the Windsor Estate’s farms.

“This is a unique opportunity to camp in the Park,” Deputy Ranger Philip Everett told Caravan Times. “We are pleased to be able to assist by providing an opportunity for much needed additional and reasonably-priced accommodation in Windsor around the period of the Games.”

Windsor is the site of the London 2012 rowing events – a discipline in which the home nation has enjoyed medal success in previous years.
