Volkswagen to retire Kombi campervan after 63 years

Volkswagen campervans have a loyal following all over the world and the German manufacturer’s Kombi model has been a firm favourite for more than six decades. Therefore news that VW will stop producing the Kombi at the end of this year will be met with emotion and nostalgia by much of the campervan community.

Although the Kombi is no longer manufactured and sold in Europe, it is still available in Brazil – the biggest car buying country in South America. However, changes to Brazilian motoring laws mean the Kombi will no longer fall within regulations and therefore VW has chosen to withdraw the model.

It will continue to manufacture the California campervan worldwide and also has plans to launch a compact Caddy in 2013.
