Hainult farmer wins Olympic campsite bid

London 2012 visitors now have a new accommodation option open to them, as a Hainault-based farmer has been granted permission to set up a temporary camping and caravan site in his grounds.

David Fowler has the capacity to welcome 6,000 Olympic and Paralympic spectators to his property, Forest Farm, between late July and early September. His plans were initially rejected by Redbridge Council, although they have since been approved following a few revisions.

In addition to offering camping and caravan pitches, Fowler is licensed to serve food and drink on the premises up until 10.30pm each night (11.30pm for food), while he has also been given permission to host live music performances – generating an estimated £2 million for the farm.

“Hopefully we can make this into a successful business,” Fowler told Out & About Live. “It’s always nice when a decision goes your way, but it’s just one more step. It’s not finished yet by any means.”
