Beer ‘Butt’ Chicken, Something Different to Cook on Your BBQ!

When camping there is often a BBQ involved, here is an American BBQ speciality to make your BBQ a bit more exciting this summer!

What ingredients you will need…

  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 can of larger or beer
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of chilli powder
  • Sea salt
  • Pepper
  • Olive oil

If you are camping you will probably be best off preparing the seasoning of your chicken before you go. Here’s how…

Firstly, crush up fennel and cumin seeds and then mix with paprika, brown sugar, chilli powder and a little bit or salt and pepper.

Next, stir in about 3 tablespoons of olive oil in order to create a paste.

Rub the paste over the chicken both on the inside and outside. Wrap the chicken in foil and place into your cool box ready for later.

At the campsite you need to heat up the BBQ.

When you are ready to put your chicken on the BBQ, you will need to open your beer and empty (or drink) half of it. Then take the chicken out of the foil and place it on top of the can, so it looks as if the chicken is sitting on top of the can. It may sound crazy but the taste you get in the end will be worth it!

Place your chicken on the BBQ and leave it to cook for an hour to an hour and 30 minutes (or until the juices run clear).

Take the chicken off the BBQ and the meat should drop off the bones. Then remove the can and enjoy!
