The essential winter driving toolkit

We’ve endured some pretty nippy temperatures recently and we’re sure most of you are well practised at scraping the frost off your car before you set off to work in the morning!

With the cold snap set to continue over Christmas and into the New Year, the Coast team advises you to put together a ‘winter SOS’ kit if you’re planning to take your touring caravan or motorhome away over the next few weeks.

Here are a few items you should pack before leaving:

• De-icer
• Ice scraper
• Snow shovel
• High visibility jacket
• Snow and ice grips to attach to your shoes
• Emergency puncture repair kit
• Jerry can containing spare fuel
• Fire extinguisher (queuing in stationary traffic can cause engines to overheat and therefore increases the risk of fires breaking out)
• Thermal blanket
• First aid kit
• Water and non-perishable snacks such as biscuits and chocolate

We also recommend that you purchase an emergency breakdown kit such as this one  from the AA, which contains many useful items such as a tow rope, warning triangle, torch and booster cables.

With inclement weather increasing your chances of being involved in an accident or sustaining damage to your leisure vehicle, it’s important to make sure your touring caravan insurance or motorhome insurance policy is up to date.
